Default Urgent advice needed re: phone / can I use a Go Phone with my existing SIM card?

I am an AT&T customer and have a phone that is on its last legs. If I buy a new phone at a discount from AT&T my contract will be renewed for another two years which I do not want. My other option is paying full price without the contract renewal but I can't justify spending over $200 on a cell phone when the one I have is less than two years old.

I was told at an AT&T store that I could buy an AT&T Go Phone and just put my SIM card into it. Is that true? I thought those phones were for prepaid usage only and I have a contract with AT&T. Alternatively, are there any places online you would recommend buying a discounted cell phone?

Thanks for your help!

An A&TT Go-Phone will work just fine.

As Tony said a Go Phone will work, your other option is going on Ebay for a Cingular/AT&T branded phone or an unlocked and or unbranded phone you can use your SIM in it.

If you do go thru Ebay make sure the phone has both 850/1900Mhz bands otherwise your coverage will suffer with a 1900Mhz only phone. Also make sure the seller has at least a 98% or higher rating.

As others have said, you can use a Go Phone with a contract SIM. The only catch is if you buy it online from AT&T — you'll need to "activate" it within 28 days from purchase (it comes with a $10 credit, so just using that will suffice — no extra money to spend), otherwise AT&T will bill you the difference between the price you paid and the "full retail price".
