Not sure if anyone can help with this. The only cell service available in my area for my local number is US Cellular. I recently purchased a Verizon
xv6700 phone because it is the most useful cell phone made in my opinion. I was going to switch to Verizon
in DesMoines but i will loose my local number which is attached to many business things. So here is the ?
Can this phone be hooked up on the US Cellular service? They both run on cdma so I am thinking this might be possible. What might be the downsides of this? Any advice or information will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. Off hand I'd say you cannot do this. It used to be that Verizon
would permit other compatible CDMA handsets on their network, but as far as I know they will not let you activate any handset that's not in their ESN database. It also must have GPS in the unit. If it doesn't it cannot be used.

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. Actually guys, he is asking if that phone can be used on US cellular.
The answer is yes. Voice and basic sms will work fine. However you may run into problems trying to get wap internet, or mms to work.....
EDIT: now that I look up the phone....you may have trouble getting the data side to work. You may want to try and go into a uscc store or call their data support and see if someone there can get the settings setup correctly. But since you already bought it, might as well give it a shot. Just remember/write down all the old info in case you need to resell it because it won't work. So again voice will work but data may not unless you can work it out.
Basic NAM (voice) programming on that phone is like this....
1. from the phone screen dial ##000000, press talk
2. select mdn and input the ten digit cell number (only do this after you have uscc add the phone's esn to their system)
3. select the msid and have uscc give you the MIN. put that mobile identification number here.
4. select home sid/nid #1 and enter your home SID. the nid should stay the same. 65535
5. press ok, then yes. and it will restart.
Now there is a way to get the USCC prl on the phone.....but you will have to download that and put it in a specific folder on the 6700. You need this to avoid roaming charges...www.ALLTELLIVES.com
My words of wisdom and random thoughts....Doesn't matter how many people are on a network, you can only use one phone at a time...ok maybe two...

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. These are borrowed instructions....
1) Download the 15508.prl file and transfer it to the device. I suggest saving it in My Documents, but you can also put it on the miniSD card.
2) Go to the phone app and dial ##PRL, then press Talk (as if you were calling the number). You should be taken to a screen asking for a lock code. Enter 000000 and press OK.
3) Click Browse on the resulting screen. The only file that shows up should be the 15508.prl file. Select it and tap OK. The phone should update the PRL and offer to reset.
4) You're done. The phone should soft reset and PRL 15508 will be loaded.www.ALLTELLIVES.com

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. Strunke,
When you say the data might not work you are not talking about the wi fi end of the internet I am asuming. I don't text message or do other data stuff over US cells service anyway. All I am wanting is the voice to work and the wi fi to work. I am trying to reduce the items I need to carry at work. If I can combine my pda and phone I will be happy.
Thanks for your assistance.

Wirelessly posted (MOT-24.0_/00.62 UP.Browser/6.2.3.4.c.1.123 (GUI) MMP/2.0)
Well you don't want to run it. You need to go to the phone side first, just like a phone call, and dial the number...##prl then talk, then enter the code, and select the file...

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. No problem. Just double check the PRL version you have on your phone and make sure your phone is looking for USCC before Verizon
....you can tell what network you are on by looking for the SID, I'm not sure where that is on the 6700 though. Then you can look up what SID (system ID) you or on....

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. Strunke,
I have it!!! I just did the tower updates for US Cellular and it updated my phone. I used to do this from time to time with my other phone so I know that I am where I need to be with it. One thing for sure next months cell bill will tell. Man I can not thank you enough for your help with my little project. Hey listen I sell car for a living and if you ever need a deal on a new Ford product let me know. I will have it drop shipped to a dealer close to you. You definitely have a friend in the car biz.
Thanks Again,

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. Here is my next thing on my xv6700 I am working on. Since I got everything to work just like it is sposed to. I am now trying to get the music from windows media player to play through my bluetooth headphones. Moto model s805. The phone works fine through them but the only time I can get music to play is when i push the phone button to activate the voice dial sytem via the headphones and the music plays until it is done waiting for me to speak. Any ideas on how I might be able to get this to work?
Oh by the way the phone and wifi has worked together the whole time. Bth on and operational all the time. Is this normal?

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. Well, I don't know if the vx6700 supports A2DP in the bluetooth profile, which is needed to use a stereo headset for the music. There may be an update or patch you can find somewhere on the internet either from a third party or utstarcom to make that work. Might be worth going to there site and emailing them....VoIP, Mobile Internet, Internet Television and Telecommunications Solutions from UTStarcom™ - there is their site....
I'll look around and let you know if I find anything as well....
It is normal for both to be running. I believe there is a way to disable it though, the wifi can drain the battery
fast when you are driving around. Are there any button's on the side? Or settings you can get into? I know the Alltel ppc6700 which is basically the same phone would let you disable and enable each one separately.

Re: Not sure if anyone can help with this. Hey thanks for the info. I will check with them.
I haven't had a problem with both of them running. I know how to shut the wi fi off when I need to. I didn't think they were both able to run at the same time and just found it odd this one does. Thanks for letting me know that it is normal.
