Does anyone have Alltel internet service and if so what kind of performance are you getting? Is this worth getting if all you've ever known is dial-up?

Alltel doesnt have all of their Northern Michigan towers upgraded to EVDO yet, so in Manton where your at you would see an average of 300-600 mbits per second. There suppose to have it up really soon, when they do you can get claimed burst speeds just shy of 1 meg, which is alittle slower than DSL. If you cant get Charter or DSL thru your phone company than Alltel would be the way to go as your only other option is a satellite provider. Even the current Alltel speeds will blast out dial up. If you get an Air Card make sure it does both EVDO and 1X so when they upgrade you will already have the equipment on hand. If you need help with your repeater let me know I can tell you which way to point it as Alltel and Cellone are the pretty close to each other out there. |

I live outside Marshall Michigan and I got Alltel internet about 1 1/2 months ago. When I first started on it said that I was connecting at between 200+ and 300 Kbps. Now in the last week or so, it is always connecting at 115.2 Kbps. Anyone know why that would be? Could it be because of a lot more suscribers? By the way, I use an E815 Cell phone for a modem. Thanks for any insight on this. Its still way faster than my old dial up.

Nope, I don't have an air card. I use a cell phone as a modem, instead. You can do it either way. The cell phone is an E815. You just attach it to the pc by a USB cable.
