Default SIM Registration Fail

What may be the cause of "SIM registration Fail" message on cellphone.(Dont say to check SIM card or handset, because the problem has observed in many location[india] with different handsets in our network.) Even the subscriber is using the same handset & SIM card from last one year.

Please suggest for any cause at MSC/BSC side. The operator is using SIEMENS telecom system.

SIM registration failing usually means that the SIM that's trying to access the network has been decomissioned by the network operator. If the account is prepaid it could have been disconnected for not keeping the account active (adding funds, making a call periodically or whatever the requirement is for the account.) If it's a monthly billed account the account could have been closed or the owner of the account could have reported that the phone or SIM had been stolen and the network operator invalidated the SIM. When the phone is powered in the future with a deactivated SIM it will say 'SIM registration failed.'

You are absolutely right in case of prepaid and postpaid. But after the power on-off mobile works as usual. Even one subscriber reported to have name of different operator on his cellphone. Say he has SIM of "X" operator. and suddenly he receives "SIM registration fail" on his mobile and just afterwards he looks "Y" operator name on his mobile.Although he couldnt latch on this "Y" operator. In which case a mobile trying to latch other operator? "Y" operator is alos exist in the city.
