I haven't heard anything definite, but it would be a really good idea if they do soon.

I hope and pray for one ...

I do hear they are testing a Cingular 8700c replacement that will be broadband. Jan/Feb release date. There is an 8707, but that's for the Europeans...

You could acquire an unlocked 8707 for use in the US but I am not sure if the freq. of the UMTS radio would work. What is T-Mo using for 3G in the states?

The euro UMTS devices will not owrk on T Mobileicon's US UMTS plans these will required a diferent set of up and donw ones than the Euro ones. My take on this is that teh manufacturers are going to give T Mobileicon a hard time with this just like they did with Cingular. Now as to the blackberry, the talked about device is teh BB8710 for Cingular and it would have the 850/1900 UMTS. Talking about the Pearl, I am going to take a wild gues and that oen would be that not any time before 2008 (at least for teh T Ombile USA side, unless T Mobileicon Europe flexes RIM's arm to build a unit that works on both USA and Euro) We will most likely find a similar one on Cingular before we see it on T mobile.

I think T-Mobileicon would be wise to exert what influence it can to ensure that manufacturers support its American UMTS network. T-Mobile's advantage, in comparison with Cingular, is that it can offer manufacturers a larger customer base to sell their goods to. That may be enough to persuade manufacturers to cater to T-Mobile USA's UMTS network.

I agree, but I think T Mobileicon as whole (mobile wise) is not as large as Cingular. Actualy Cingular is one of the largest cell companies in the world and it falls in the top 10.

For the UMTA comparo look here.

T-Mobileicon International, all of T-Mobileicon's companies worldwide, is the third largest carrier in the world, behind China Mobile and Vodafone. T-Mobile has over 100M customers worldwide, compared to Cingular's 55 million or whatever the number is.

Exactly. Deutsche Telecom is a major player. Not to mention, every RIM GSM blackberry has been quad band for years so I see this continuing as the technology evolves and bands/services are added.

I was refering to T-Mobileicon the global network, and as the above posters pointed out it's rather large. Cingualr is the tenth biggest network in the world according to the statistics on Wikipedia, with T-Mobileicon being sixth.
