Well I think my father and I are going to get T616's, since they'll be free (99.99-100rebate). For my mom, however, I am not sure what to get. She has a Virgin 2119b right now, and she can't even send a text message on it haha! She'll be using this phone ONLY for voice calls. While the 616 is such a good value, it's probably just too much for her to handle. I am considering the x427 and T720 for her. The x427 is nicer in many respects, but has no caller ID screen, which is a problem (shes a screener). The Moto I am sure has its problems--but she is familiar with the design because my stepdad has a T730 on Verizon (and I had one too). Both are free after rebates. On a sidenote, should I get the v400 (my dad and I can switch back and forth when I get bored heh)? It seems like the 616 is a better fit for me due to several conversations with TnDan and Bobolito. I just don't think it's worth the extra 80$ since it's 129.99 with a 40$ rebate. I'd rather pay nothing for all the phones... Thanks all! |

I've heard too many complaints against the Cingular T720 to recommend it. The Samsung X427 is a great phone. You should be able to deactivate the auto flip answer so she can take a look at the number when she opens it up before she answers it. No big deal IMO.

The T720 with Cingular is only 1900 MHz I believe so see what frequency Cingular uses in your area. I like my v400 and never have had the battery issues others have. Also, you'll definitely like the speakerphone on the v400 over the 8900 you have now. Again, not everyone like's the v400 speakerphone but to me it sounds loud and clear while driving. The color is awesome too on it though the screen really shows how greasy our faces can be. Again, all of this is just my experience. GSM phones are also not so easy to hack into like CDMA ones are. I hope they work better for you.

Cingular doesn't sell 1900Mhz-only (handicapped) phones. The T720 has both 850/1900. However, T-Mobile had the T720i which is 1900-only.

Bobolito, your probably right. I got a Moto T720 months back before I even heard of dual band Cingular phones so I figured it was 1900 MHz only. I live in the old PacBell market where it's been all GSM 1900 from the get go. (That'll probably change when the AT&T Wireless acquisition finalizes) If I remember correctly my nokias were single band. I guess the first dual band Cingular phone I remember seeing were the Siemens followed by the Nokia series like a year ago.
