this question is mainly for my girlfriend...
she recently moved out and into an apartment and bought a new lap top and got the Verizon Broadband card for her computer, and would like to know unbiased opinion, on whether or not its a good idea...we are located in the valley in California, Turlock specifically, the other option is to 50/50 with her roomate for comcast, but then she's wasting the $150+ spent for the card...mainly we'd like to know some Pros and Cons speed reliabilty coverage how often it drops etc, etc hope theres people that can help! thank you! |

Go with comcast.
Check thier maps and see if Verizon has 3g service in your area probably not. if not your best speed will be 65kbps. Not worth the money for the speed you get.I had cingular wireless modem the saleman said it was high speed, but it wasnt all i got was gprs at 65 kbps for $60 a month. Yes its faster than dail up but for 60 bucks i want some speed. Wireless Internet has just became available to me and I switched. I now pay 34.95 a month for 384kbps up and down and I love it. Im out in the boonies by the way, So no DSL or Cable. Ringer, |

She needs to check the speed she is getting. DSL Reports has a good speed test. If Turlock has EV-DO, then she might be getting good speed, but if there is comcast there already, a wireless router would make more sense. A good wireless router costs $50 to $100.

A wireless broadband card would only be good if Verizon
has your area covered with EVDO and if your girlfriend would use the aircard while 'on the go'. That's mostly the advantage of having an aircard...if she doesn't use her card on the go, I would just go 50/50 with comcast.
