Default M-B V60 upgrade

I have a 2003 SL500 MB, need to upgrade my V60 phone. What are my choices besides Mikbox? M-B want a heart & lung $$ to do the job.

What do you mean by 'upgrade' your v60? Are you looking at purchasing a new phone? You can probably find a new v60 that's e911 compliant for your carrier on eBay or somewhere. That way you would not have to change the installed parts in your Mercedes.

Another option, of course, is to purchase a more recent Mercedes that has Bluetooth, which you can then use with any number of Bluetooth compatible handsets. Probably more expensive than just picking up a new v60, though.

Yeah, If he doesn't want to pay to switch out the cradle & wiring on his car he surely doesn't want to pay for a new car. Might I suggest installing a bluetooth hands -free car kit in the car?

Nope, no BT, not even on the 2006 models. Benz wants you to buy their V60 phone & cradle for around $1300-$1500.

Then, perhaps the 2006 BMW M5 Sedan would be more to Rex's liking.

It includes BMWAssist with Bluetooth® wireless technology.

Acura is also an option, since I believe all of their 2006 models include Bluetooth. Although, for some, Acura doesn't have the same prestige associated with it as Mercedes-Benz or der Bayerische Motoren Werke.

Back on topic all 2006 Acuras do have BT and I think the TL has had BT since 2003 or 2004.

haha, no problem here. I actually like Acrua a lot. It has the same deal going on as Infiniti, they are both owned by a Japanese company which markets cheaper cars as their own.

Nothing beats a BMW when it comes to age though. When it comes to my 1994 BMW, it kicks the crap out of any other car from that time in looks and technology. Yeah, I love that car.

Bimmers are niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice, you'll get no argument from me. I just can't afford one... yet.

EDIT: Sorry this thread got a little , Rex.

I guess an easy and cheap answer would be to purchase a Bluetooth-enabled phone and just use a hands-free headset while driving, eliminating the need to use the installed speakerphone. You can also get a Motorola car charger and splitter to charge both your headset and phone at the same time. Motorola also has Bluetooth speakers you could use, or you could get a phone with speakerphone included, if you didn't prefer the headset.

The headsets with booms (HS810, HS850, H700, etc.) all auto-connect when you open the booms, so you wouldn't even have to wear it and have it powered on if you could easily reach it when a call came in.

How about my 1981 Buick? I love the style, it rides like an overstuffed couch, and technology??? It has a rare computer-controlled carburetor on it. I don't think BMW ever attempted a computer controlled carb.

haha, yeah. This model BMW has the little trip computer thing, that most cars today still dont have. It tells you miles left in the gas tank, average speed and MPG, you can set it to a max speed so itl beep when you get over that speed, temp, time, blah blah blah.

My Mom had a Chrysler in the 80's that did that. I remember once I got in her car and the dashboard was flashing "DTE 2", so I drove to the nearset station, Stern's Store (A small general store with 1 pump out front). When I saw that gas was $1.59/gal (Gasp!) I drove the 5 miles to 7-11 with the car flashing "DTE 0" the whole way.

It's my wife's car. The problem is that the original V60 digital phone is not 911 compliant. and of course cingular, verizon et all are going to discontinue systems that are not 911 compliant.
BUT, M-B phones are different from all others, so I can't use any regular Motorola phone. (other than a V60s with a cradle replacement), because they aren't compatable electronically and don't fit in the cradle)
But starting in just the last month, there's a new M-B cradle that fits in the original cradle and it will take other M-B compliant phones for bluetooth connection.
Will take razr, E815, V710, V60s, V600, V557, Nokia 6230. I can get the cradle adapter & phone for $574 no tax. This is much better than $2,000 to $2,200 quoted by M-B. This way we can still use all the hands free & voice controls of the SL. Found it on wireless4mb.com.

I have a late 04 XLR, so no problem.
Thanks for all the info, guys.
