Default gsm in mexico?

HI. Does anyone know wich carrier offers the best coverage in mexico. I was looking at the telcel site wich i belive is the company that offers the best coverage in mexico, and noticed that their net work is only a gsm net work. So iam thinking that to roam in their network i need a gsm phone and a carrier that offers gsm. Or am i wrong?

Buy a phone here and buy a prepaid card locally in Mexoco or sign up with T-Mobile and roam at $1.49 a minute, roaming is usually more expensive then a country local prepaid card.

RadioMovil Telcel was a TDMA carrier, which is overlaying their markets to GSM just like Cingular and AT&T. Their coverage looks sparse from what I see on www.gsmworld.com. However, I know that the coverage maps aren't updated very often. You might want to check out their website.

Yeah, it does seem that coverage is very sparse in Mexico, however I fear it isn't so much to do with the ill-updating of coverage maps, rather just the sad state of affairs there. However, as long as you're around big towns/cities you should get good coverage - the same story in pretty much all of South America.
