PRL 10025: Enhancements on PRL 10025: PRL 10025 will enhance customer experience by reducing the time it takes PCS handsets to find the Sprint signal in some new network acquisition. Sprint has partnered with another telecommunications provider to become a Strategic Roaming Alliance (SRA) Partner in Montana. This SRA partner will provide new 1900 and 800 CDMA coverage for Sprint customers in Montana and the roaming indicator will not be displayed. |

Great news, do you think that we'll be seeing this in other states as well?

No probably not as Montana is a unique situation. Sprint decided to form a partnership with Western Wireless so that they could meet their PCS buildout requirements for Montana in time.

That's too bad. I know someone that would love to have 800 CDMA in NY.

It's still technically roaming though since the network isn't owned by Sprint.

I don't get the first time for 800MHz?? Do you remember Sprint Cellular 1993-1996? They owned the cellular 800 MHz network in Nevada, Carolinas, Iowa ect.

I know they are doing this so they will meet buildout dealines in 2005 for the FCC. If this deal did not happen I don't know if Sprint could build towers covering new areas in Washington and/or Montana to make the 10 year buildout dealine. As many people know here if a wireless provider does not meet the 5 year or 10 year deadline with proper coverage for that license the FCC takes it away.

Sprint Cellular is now Altell or Verizon Wireless Reason is Sprint spent so much on PCS licenses in 1995 that they had to divest the Cellular to build a PCS network. Other reason they had to divest was, Sprint would be over the 45 MHz limit 30 PCS + 25 Cellular = 55 MHz. Very few Sprint Cellular markets had CDMA when it was divested, even though it was the digital choice for Sprint Cellular. Even Las Vegas was finished up by 360 communications. |

This is a good move. I see Sprint eventually just adding Verizon/Alltel coverage in some key states for free. I mean, there's going to be Cingular and Verizon with hige portions of the country painted, then Sprint and T-mobile...and T-Mobile has cheaper phones (on 1 year contracts) and better low end plans. The new Fair and Flexible plans are pretty darn good though, |
