Cant give details but expect a pleasant surprise to existing sprint customers who want to buy a new phone (they wont have to pay full price) already sprint's handset prices arent all that bad for existing customers but they will get better on nov. 1st. |

Hopefully it will be something similar to what SunCom (Triton PCS) does. After you are a customer with them for 10 months you are eligible for a $75 credit toward the purchase of a new phone.

Boy, Mobile to Mobile minutes, handset discounts! Sprint is finally joining the wireless revolution! Imagine that, incentives for loyal customers! What a concept for Sprint! I'm glad they're finally implementing these things! |

I just hope there's not a catch to this such as having to sign a two year agreement to qualify for the discount. We'll have to wait and see.

With these new rate plans if Sprint PCS would improve coverage in NorthEast TN and SouthWest VA I'd consider them. Good job on the new rate plans and getting rid of the $3 customer service charge Sprint PCS!

Dan, As you already know, those areas you mention are not under Sprint jurisdiction. The local affiliate(s) will be the ones who have to improve coverage there. By the way I found out that Sprint won't require a two year contract for us old customers to qualify for those rebates on new phones. We just have to be a customer for at least 9 months. |

As long as it's not a two year I'll probably bite.

Dan, I'm up in the Tri-Cities area of Tenn about once every week or so and my Sprint service has been pretty good. What are the areas up there that Sprint doesn't have coverage that Suncom does? I do know that Sprint(or Horizon PCS or whomever) does need more coverage in Virginia, but I'm just curious as to the places where Suncom has service that Sprint doesn't. I've got a friend in Bristol, TN who has both Sprint for himself and Suncom(unplan) for his wife. When driving north out of Abingdon, VA he says he loses his Suncom signal at about the same place that he loses his Sprint signal. I do know that there are a couple of trouble spots for Sprint that I've encountered. One is on 11W going from Bristol to Kingsport. There is a 1/8th mile section of road right after you get on 11W from I-81 between two hills in a dip in the road next to the BP station that always drops the call Sanyo phone or not. My friend reports that his suncom phone will keep a signal there, but they most likely have a better tower location. Another location is when you are at the Tri-Cities airport. I haven't had my Sanyo 4900 down there, but my old Samsung 3500 did drop the call while driving near the airport. I also have encountered some trouble making calls at the airport which made me wonder if my signal was being interfered with by the airports equipment. Other than those two places(that 1/8th of a mile isn't too much of a nuisance for me), I really can't complain about my Sprint coverage in Kingsport(I'm over there often as my girlfriend lives there), Bristol, or Johnson City. Nightrain5 the outdoor coverage with Sprint PCS is generally fine in the area its indoors that Sprint really has trouble with here. The second you go inside a building even if the signal is quite good outside Sprint PCS service just seems to die indoors. I couldn't get a Sprint PCS phone to work indoors at my mom's house, my house, inside Super K-Mart in Kingsport and many other places. Those are all places where my SunCom (Triton PCS) phone did fine indoors and out. Driving on the road and while outside Sprint PCS is fine here but if you want in building coverage SunCom is far superior over them in that departmeant from what I have seen. |

Dan, You and Cryogenic mentioned a new tower a few weeks back. Did you ever determine who it was for? |

I haven't found out yet Larry but I believe it is most likely a Verizon Wireless tower but it could be Sprint PCS. It's the tower right up on top of the hill from me, SunCom (Triton PCS) has always been there but I believe there is now a second carrier on there. I think it's Verizon Wireless though but I'm not sure yet I'm still trying to find out.

Dan, What do the panels look like on the new one? Are they flat with maybe a slight concave shape? or are they thick and rounded? If they are flat it is most likely not Verizon. Flat are usually 1900 Mhz. |
