Is there a difference in reception between the two types of antennas? The "expert" at the cingular store swears there isn't, and actually swears there is no difference in reception for any type of phone - that it is all in the service. From my little bit of experience, it seems the phones with the external antennas get better reception. Any opinions? Also, if anyone could recommend a great phone to use with cingular I would appreciate it. Thanks, Lauren |

I have Cingular TDMA and have had great luck with the Motorola V60 (which comes in two flavors -- V60t for TDMA, V60g for GSM -- depending on your needs). I also had a Nokia 8200 series phone that worked great, but had less features than the Motorola. Do you have any pricing restrictions or have you narrowed the phone selection down at all? ATLguy |

It seems to vary some people say that external antenna's perform better and others say it doesn't make a difference. I've heard yes, no, and it varies on the area you are in with the internal vs external antenna question. Personally I myself would trust a phone with a external antenna more especially in fringe areas.

My personal experience has shown that it really doesn't matter whether the antenna is internal or external ... even in the "fringe" areas. My advice would be to simply select the phone that meets your needs (size, button layout, battery quality, menu structure, flip-or-candybar, etc.) Don't worry about the antenna at first ... just pick a phone that you like and test it out *very* well during your first few days of service. If it doesn't meet your expectations, you can always return it and try something else... ATLguy |
