It seems like it is getting better, 150 for a 3360 with 30$ airtime, with a 50$ rebate, not bad! SMS's are 10 cents each way, a little pricey, and some roaming is now included, I guess just Cingular TDMA areas. Can someone maybe find a map of these areas, this is the list here http://onlinestore.cingular.com/html...ended_home.htm |

Well Cingular better build out its GSM network before it goes all GSM! That's cool about the prepaid, I am very happy with Verizon's prepay but if something happens, it'll be nice to know I have a backup. Ten cents for text messages though is too expensive. RIT can you provide any details at all, nothing major, don't want to get you in trouble or anything. Ok, heres one, will all Cingular TDMA areas be included?

Well it looks like Mr.Verizon is mad at Cingular because it has the best phones out there.CINGULAR ROCKS

I've been hearing "Cingular will be all GSM by XXX" for months now. Mysteriously, "XXX" is always about 12 months in the future. I'll believe it when I see it. And by "all GSM" do you mean GSM coverage everywhere they have TDMA coverage now? Because if not, it's useless to me. I travel a lot and I'm in remote locations quite a bit. I frequently end up falling back to AMPS. If I can't keep my current level of coverage Cingular will lose my business. |

Yep, that's it I am just so jealous! Lol, T-Mobile to me has the best selction of phones. Yeah I agree that I will beleive it when I see it. I am kind of thinking that Cingular might just be a voice-only carrier for awhile, I mean it isn't hurting their sales too much. The TDMA is working fine, and it does not seem like they are in a hurry, but that might be a good thing, ATT is the total opposite. Anyone else find it hard to beleive that 'John Doe' can be an adult, I know that I am way more mature at 17, and while Aiwapro seems a little too bent on T-Mobile, he is in high school too and seems way more mature. Oh well.

BUT (looking at the map) It kinda resembles GSM coverage, but it's generally a bit thicker. I usually describe T-mobile's map as a spiderweb thrown across a US map. This one looks a lot more like big ink blots. If you go prepaid now, they should show it to you in the store because it's in effect for new customers, just doesn't change for old ones until November. Rough guess, you're not roaming on about 1/3 of the area in the eastern US (with Texas and the states directly, included on the East, being the Westmost states). It may've sounded confusing, but, it's a strange map. Also, roaming will be dropped to .99 instead of 1.99 and won't immediately ask for a credit card as soon as you try to make the call. P | |

I checked into Cingular Pre-Paid as a backup phone and to check out their coverage in my area to see if it was close to the coverage I have with Verizon as I was thinking of switching. I was told by the sales rep that Cingular Pre-Paid would only work locally and that I could not travel outside of my home area with it (As far north as North Branch, I am in Michigan) Was he full of $#!T? Does anyone have Cingular prepaid in Michigan that can comment on coverage? My wife has a prepaid verizon phone and we can roam nationally with it.

Its true you only could stay in your home area with the phone to work.

That sucks, guess I will just have to wait and see what happens in the future. I guess I can always use the 15 day return policy if I need to and convert my current Verizon phone to prepaid as a backup if I decide to keep Cingular. I hate to give up my number that I have had for the last 11 years though and I really don't want to spend the bucks on prepaid for all of the people that would be hitting my VM if I did transfer it over. Hmmmmmmmm, decisions, decisions *LOL* Thanks for the heads up JD

Actually, I just got off the phone with Cingular. I found out thatI can use a pre-paid phone anywhere that Cingular has coverage but it deducts at $.79 per minute. This is not really a big deal for me since I will be using my Verizon phone as my primary and just using my Cingular phone to test their coverage. If they cover EVERYWHERE I travel like my Verizon phone does, then I will cancel my VW service and switch over. The only thing that makes me nervous is my initial impression of their customer service. They kept me on the phone for 45 minutes just to get me this information and still could not get me a price on the 8265. Maybe I will try them again and see if the same thing happens.

I don't mind Cingular but I seriously wouldn't switch to them if I were you. Their prepaid sucks compared to FREEUP (don't you have FREEUP, on one phone or something?). If I am totally wrong sorry, lol!

You realise you've been posting your cingular.com e-mail address. I would be very careful about that, especially if you're going to post unprofessional tirades like that. Remember the first rule of e-mail... "Do not send anything you wouldn't want read on a loudspeaker." It would be quite easy to forward your outbursts to someone in authority at Cingular. Just a little note. Now back to the chest-butting...

Airb - My wifes phone is FREEUP but she uses it only for emergencies and minimal calling. As many minutes as I use I would have to sell my house, my car, and my blood to pay for the minutes I use. *LOL* I was just thinking of going with their pre-paid for a couple of months to test their coverage. That way when I am travelling to the places that I normally go, I can see if their coverage is sufficient for my needs. If not, then I can just stop buying minutes and sell the phone, if it is, then I could activate it on a rate plan. I know they have a 15 day return plan, but there is no way I am going to make it to 17 states in the next 15 days.

Also, I didn't say I was going to do it - I wouldn't bother - but not everyone might be so forbearing. It was in the nature of free advice. Take it as you will.

He obviously has taken self expression to a new level. Let's give him a little credit however....if CS reps were more like him, cellular providers wouldn't need to advertise. Just send him on the road with a loudspeaker.
