My wife asked me this question so I am looking for comments. Can a text message enabled TDMA phone in N. American send a text message to an GSM text enabled phone in Europe? OK, my thoughts maybe, depending on the carrier and how they are configured. Short text messaging is sent over the SS-7 network from point A MTSO to point B MTSO. There are variations of the SS-7 system with europe using a CCITT variation. Any first hand experience?

Log onto www.orange.co.uk That is about the best source I've found for info as far as sending and receiving transatlantic textings. Of course you're out of luck if Great Britain isn't where you are interested in texting to. I have T-Mobile and I can send text messages across the pond, but not receive them. I even inquired as to whether I could send an email to an SMS enabled phone, but apparently in Great Britain atleast there is no mobile#@orange.net or mobile#@vodafone.com in the same way in the states we have mobile#@vtext.com or mobile#@mobile.mycingular.com
