Default NEXTEL CEO says network is fully built out...

in this interview the nextel ceo says a lot of good things about the company.......but one thing that is very scary if it is true....he says that their network is "completely built out, we have 16,000 cell sites now.........coverage is not an issue".....hopefully he is just making things up to make it seem like capital expenditures are not a factor, same as not saying how they will have to overhaul their entire network to go 3g since iDen is kind of stuck.

now i know one thing that if nextel's market is fully built out that will never convince me to switch over. i like their DC feature and i like their unlimited incoming plans as well. however; already sprint has better coverage than them in NJ and i know for a fact sprint's buildout from jersey includes many many more sites. here is the link, you need a fast connect cause it is streaming live video.... sprint has some problem markets as is obvious, like nextel has as well in regards to coverage......but the difference is that sprint is far from done (from what i know)

I agree it is scary to hear the CEO saying that their network is fully built..i mean how does he know? They hired that idiot from Verizon? I know for a fact that Nextel coverage is not nearly as good as Sprint Or ATT...my friends who have nextel told me that dropped calls in the DFW area is fairly common...if their network is fully built...then heck..i'll never switch as well eventhough i like their Free Incoming Min & DC features!

There's no way it's built out. Here in Mendocino County, in Northern California, along with Lake, Humboldt, Del Norte, and many other Nor Cal counties, Nextel has licenses to build out, but has not yet. Unless they've sold a lot of licenses, they have a lot more building out to do.

No Nextel in Augusta GA and Asheville NC != "fully built out" (Those two areas may be Partners areas or land up with Partners, though)

"fully built out"... I new here, so in the opinion of you experts...should a person go with T-Mobile over Nextel if you're in an area where they are basically "equal" in coverage?

If you can do without the Direct Connect feature of Nextel, T-Mobile would be a good choice.

Questions to ask:

- Do you need Direct Connect? (yes = Nextel, no = T-Mo)
- Do you use data? If so, is cost or speed more important? (no data = either; cost = Nextel; speed = T-Mo)
- Is Canada coverage/roaming important? (yes = Nextel, no = T-Mo)
- Are you mostly a local/regional user? (yes = T-Mo's 3000-min plan might be your best choice; no = either should suit you)
