Hello all - I have a Siemens S40 phone I got through Cingular specifically so I can use it while in Asia with prepaid SIM cards. However, obviously, I need to get it unlocked first. I wanted to ask about the specifics of getting this done. I know I need to e-mail to simunlockcode@cingular.com and give them some info (I have some clue based on info from the post at http://www.wirelessadvisor.com/wafor...84&STARTPAGE=1). However, I am not sure what info to send exactly. I hear of people referring to an IMEI #, which I have no idea on where to find. Anything else I need to know? Thank you in advance for the help! HF |

I'm a current Cingular GSM subscriber and have gotten a phone unlocked... The correct procedure to do so is to call customer service and ask to be transferred to technical support because you need the "subsidy unlock" code for your phone. When tech support comes on, inform them that you are going to be travelling oversaeas and need the subsidy unlock code for your phone so you can use prepaid SIMS. They'll ask for your IMEI # and then submit a request to the tech team to get the unlock code. They'll ask when you plan on leaving overseas and for a callback # and should give you a call back in 3 business days with your SIM unlock code. I got mine in exactly 3 business days (Sat/Sun don't count) with no hassle at all. They even left the code on my voicemail. WaldemarT, Why contact anyone when it's free? Read the earlier posts. The only ones that currently have the S40 in the US are Cingular customers. if they can just call customer service and get their codes in 3 days for free, why even bother with software and cables, not to mention extraneous costs? -- Sung H. Why contact? Because when is free it's mean is not allways good. Sometimes u can become a "Wrongsoftware" or just kill your phone.

Amen, Zaphod... It's not like Cingular's gonna send you an unlock cable and the software and go "ok, unlock it yourself".... That's not how it works. They give you a numeric code based on your IMEI that you simply input into the correct menu in your phone. I'd love to see how that could fry a phone!

Its so easy. I just did it in fact, for a Siemens S40 too. I just called Cingular and within 2 or 3 minutes I had an eight digit code that I enter into the phone when I put in the prepaid card. Couldn't be any easier then that. The only trick is to not lose that number until I need it...

I noticed that you got your Siemens unlocked, just one question, how long did you use it with Cingular before they unlocked it for you?
