When I first started in wireless sales many years ago one of my trainers at Alltel told me that the average cell phone call is 2.5 minutes. With so much more competition today and bigger buckets of minutes I was thinking today that the average must be higher.

So I pulled out my Kyocera and looked at the calls timer, I found I average 2.63 minutes per call.

I like to use this kind of number to compare rate plans, for example:

A rate plan with 700 minutes per month would give the average user 7-8 calls per day.

What I would like to know is how long is your average call, and does CTIA or PCIA have any valid stats. (I looked but could not find.)

Well looking at this month's bill on my wireless phone and figuring it out I used a average of 6.85 minutes per call. I also found that I make a average of 13 calls a day with a average of 90.03 minutes used a day on my phone. I apparently used 2,701 minutes this month.

Damn apparently I talk a lot, at least on this billing cycle I did. Oh well what can I say I got a big mouth lol [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]

According to VZServe, I have used 221 peak minutes and 2,168 off-peak minutes so far this month since the start of the billing cycle on July 5th- I guess I should break it down: peak avergae call is about 2.5 minutes, 3 a day. My off peak calls average about 48 minutes.
Gotta love unlimited nights/weekends! Thank you, Verizon!

So far, according to Cingular Ecare, I have made 443 calls this month. It doesn't break down which were offpeak and which were peak. I have used 365 peak minutes and 582 offpeak, 947 minutes total. So about an average of 2.13 minutes per call, which I would say is about right, considering most of my calls are very short, with the occasional 15-20 minute call thrown in there. Rarely am I on the phone for more than 20 minutes at a time.

I have a lot of 1-2 minute calls (including a large number of busy signals, "test" calls to invalid numbers, etc.) and not-so-occasional long (30-90 minute) calls, with not much in the middle.

I think the longest cell call I've ever made was one on last month's Nextel bill that was 106 minutes long (placed call in Rochester NY, hung up in Niagara Falls NY two blocks from the Rainbow Bridge into Canada.)
