    Default Verizon and Sprint PRL

Just a quick question... with the new Verizonicon PRL out, 50037, can Verizon Wirelessicon americas choice users actually use the Sprint PCS network anywhere in the country where there is no Verizonicon coverage AND not get charged for roaming??

    Thanks

If you roam on SPCS with Verizonicon AC you won't pay roaming charges.

That said, Verizonicon does NOT roam in all SPCS markets; in particular, they (as of 50030 or so) no longer roam on SPCS in southern California (Angeles Mountains south; Bakersfield/Central Valley is still in) and in much of NY, northern NJ, CT, and western MA (this one is particularly puzzling as this means customers now roam off-net, IIRC on RCC, in Franklin County MA), and have never roamed in some affiliate markets (most notably Alamosa's.)

i called Verizonicon about 1.5 months ago on my parent's account to ask them if they switched to a tri-mode phone phone and got on america's choice if they would roam free on sprint up here (in northern NJ).......and after speaking to a manager the Verizonicon rep said yes, roaming on the pcs carrier up here (the only other 1900mhz cdma carrier i know in NJ is sprint) is part of the americas choice plan.

the reason i asked her is because where my parents need to use the phone it gets 0 bar Verizonicon service inside and a barely workable signal inside....but sprint is full service.

so roamer....when did they take sprint off of the verizon PRL in NJ?

I don't know specifically about the New Jersey area, but I do know that SPCS was taken off in the New York metro area I believe...I'm assuming if New Jersey was affected by this, it would have happened around the same time which was mid April I believe.

Keep in mind that PRL's often have bugs. Even if Verizonicon's customers are supposed to be able to access Sprinticon in a certain area including affiliates that doesn't mean they will. There is a lot of room for error in PRL's. Sprinticon has had several defective PRL's where roaming didn't work properly.

What does Sprinticon get outta this? Nice roaming charges from Verizonicon. I still do not get how people will sign up for Sprint, when they can get Sprinticon with Verizonicon in most cases. Yes sometimes you cant I understand, but to me Sprint offers nothing.

well i suppose some people sign up with Sprinticon for the plans, the phones, the features, and where Sprinticon service is adequate....

Franklin County, MA is one of the new areas added by Verizonicon just recently. They've added the following...

[list][*] New York - Counties of Clinton and Franklin.[*] Massachusetts - Franklin County[*] Vermont - Counties of Bennington, Windham, and Windsor[*] New Hampshire - Counties of Cheshire, Coos, Grafton, Stratford, and Sullivan[*] Maine - Counties of Aroostook, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo, Washington, and York
