cdma1xEV-DV is approved well from what i have recently heard sprint is upgrading to a slightly different kind of 3g than verizon even is....verizon is going to cdma 1xEV-DO while sprint is going 1xEV-DV (Data Only vs Data&Voice) sometime in 2004 the 1xEV-DV top speed is 4.8mbs while 1xEV-DO i think is 2.4mbs........ if someone has other news of where verizon is upgrading to please post and verify.. article: The CDMA Development Group reported that CDMA2000 1xEV-DV (data and voice) has been approved by both the Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) for publication, and has been submitted to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for formal approval as an IMT-2000 3G global standard. Today's announcement further demonstrates that CDMA2000 continues to lead 3G. In addition to CDMA2000 1xEV-DV, the CDMA2000 family of standards includes CDMA2000 1X and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, which already have been recognized by the ITU as 3G technologies. CDMA2000 1X is commercially available on 14 wireless networks, while CDMA2000 1xEV-DO has been launched on two. There were more than 8.7 million CDMA2000 subscribers worldwide at the end of April. "We are very pleased with the work that the CDMA community and 3GPP2 have done in continuing to advance wireless communications," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "CDMA2000 leads in 3G subscriber numbers, product availability, services and technology innovation. The TIA's approval of CDMA2000 1xEV-DV further strengthens the industry's recognition of CDMA2000 as the standard of choice for 3G." As specified by the 3GPP2, CDMA2000 1xEV-DV will provide integrated voice with simultaneous high-speed packet data services, such as video, video-conferencing and other multimedia services at speeds of up to 4.8 Mbps. CDMA2000 1xEV-DV is backward compatible with cdmaOne(TM) and CDMA2000 1X, providing wireless operators a seamless network evolution. |
