Honestly, all my friends have them and admit they suck in so many places (in Delaware). My friend just said she never gets good reception where she wants to, yet she likes Verizon still. They all say they still like Verizon. I seriously do not understand this? I pay for my bill (they don't) and I expect good service. "because i accept the fact that verizon phones just don't work here or in milford so it doesn't matter what phone i have" a friend of mine just said this, yet she says this next "you just can't leave civilization" " i still like verizon" I don't get it! |

I'm sure if they paid for the bill themselves they wouldn't be as happy with the service.

Yeah it's weird how they let Verizon get by with poor coverage but if it's Sprint you never stop hearing about it.

I think part of it is Verizon's very successful marketing. They have a great network, that can't be denied. As a result, people that use Verizon know they are using the "best" carrier in the country and that makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It makes no sense in reality...if Sprint had every inch of the USA covered except where i live and go to school I would choose someone else. Therefore...I think Dan is right. People tend to not be so critical of their service when their parents pay the bill. Even with Sprint I sometimes feel guilty complaining when Vision goes down because it is free for me. If I was paying for it I would be a lot more vocal about service disruptions.

How do you get free Vision? It doesn't go down very often for me. I don't even remember the last time that happened. |

You're right...Vision has not gone down in a long time...at least 2 months.

Oh that's right free on the expensive plans. I never see myself paying $100/month for a plan.

I found this on Howards and thought it was pretty funny: here is a typical conversation between a sprint customer and a verizon customer. [Sprint customer> man i am getting nights starting at 7, what time are your nights? don't they start at 9? [Verizon customer> i get great coverage! [Sprnt customer> i just signed up for the free and clear america deal and can roam half of my minutes for just $5 per month. [Verizon customer> i get great coverage! [Sprint customer> uhhhh... do you understand that roaming lets me use the same coverage that you have? [Verizon customer> i get great coverage! [Sprint customer> that sprint vision service kicks ***. for $15 a month i can use the net as much as i want and send as many pictures as i want. i looked at the verizon website and it looks like its $45 a month for internet and another $5 a month for picture mail. is that right? it seems like way to much to pay for those services to me. [Verizon customer> i get great coverage! [Sprint customer> i am thinking about getting a new camera phone but its so hard to choose which one out of the 7 different camera phones that sprint offers. is it true that verizon only has 3 camera phones? [Verizon customer> i get great coverage! [Sprint customer> i tell you, i really like downloading free ringers and stuff from third party websites. its nice doing all that customizing for free. how come verizon blocks that ability and all the websites i use for that stuff say verizon is not supported? [Verizon customer> i get great coverage! [Sprint customer> you know it sounds to me like you pay more, get less service and have fewer choices. why would you stay with them? [Verizon customer> i get great coverage! |

Can't believe I am about to defend Verizon...but here goes: I do think they are very good. Perhaps even the best. That being said, they are not that much better than Sprint, Cingular, etc. I think their reputation as a top notch network is well deserved, but I think their marketing tactics have suceeded in making people believe everyone else sucks, when that is hardly the case at all.

Coming from someone who pays their own bills here are my pros and cons on Verizon: Pros: best reception in Manhattan. almost all of my friends are on Verizon, 2 on Sprint, 1 Tmobile. Cons: don't agree with their upgrade policy; I should be able to upgrade at any time. other carriers offer more anytime minutes and other perks such as 7pm nights etc. crappy selection of phones. Airb, With the case of your friend, I'm not sure why she sticks with Verizon if the reception isn't that great. If it were me, I'd switch carriers in a heartbeat. |

That's what I think is silly. Her parents pay for the service, so she probably doesn't care a lot. But, she admitted Verizon sucks at our college, at her boyfriends house in Milford, and at the beaches. I tried to tell her, then basically it sucks where you need it, but she still likes Verizon! My other friends are like this too! Most of my friends are on Verizon, like you. I love the M2M, but it doesn't justify the bad service IMO. Offtopic: I think it's funny how I get a -80 signal at my mom's house with Sprint, and -101 with Verizon now. They are both on the same tower 3 miles away! It used to be the opposite! Sprint did something good, while Verizon moved their panels to cover the highways better (add another tower, stop spacing towers 8 miles apart....that's my solution) while making rural and even town coverage much worse! | |
