Anyone know why they restricted wireless number portability to local numbers only? Having a phone number tied to a certain geographic area seems to make much less sense with wireless phones than with landline phones. This pretty much means I can't port my number as I have moved since I originally got my phone. Here's wishing my phone number could be a permanent as my domain name.... |

Because geographic porting means that the person calling you or the carrier initiating the call would pay the LD costs to deliver the call. No LL carrier is ready for that. Supposedly geographic portability is the next step, but it will only happen when LD costs are gone. With VOIP, that may be possible. |
