Default Transferring Photos To PC

If a data connection can be established between a phone and a pc, is it possible to transfer pictures. I don't have a specific camera phone in mind but I am shopping around and I wanted to know if features such as infrared would be useful in that respect.

got this from phone scoop under the LG VX6000 features/USB:

"USB

USB (Universal Serial Bus) is a type of plug-in connection that is used to connect devices, including some phones, to desktop or laptop computers. In a phone, USB is useful for quickly transferring files to and from phones, or for synchronizing address book and calendar information with a computer application such as Outlook.

The phone is typically recognized by the computer as an accessory, with the proper driver installed on the computer.

However, some phones support USB-Host (also called USB-OTG), which allows USB accessories to be connected directly to the phone, with no computer involved"

I'm assuming it means files so i'm sure that means pictures.
