Default Wireline to Wireless delay

In speaking with my Nextel rep this morning, he mentioned that Wireline to Wireless porting will not be available on 11/24, at least for Nextel. He couldn't tell me how long it would be delayed.

Well.. I don't know what to say.. except, the REP is wrong! I know for a fact that Nextel will be ready to port from Wireline to wireless once 11/24 comes.

Besides, it wouldn't make business sense for them not to. They would definitely want more business you would think! I think the problem, if any, would be with the Wireline telco. We shall see.

I agree. Most of the hassle will come from the wireline telco. Whether or not the problem comes from the telco being stubbron or technical issue, that is the question waiting to be answered

There will be no problems in porting your SBC landline to Cingular Wireless though

SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE: SBC) said today it would accelerate bringing wireline to wireless number portability to all consumers in all markets in its region by Nov. 24, rather than wait another six months as outlined by the FCC.

In a letter sent today to FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell, SBC Communications Inc. said that the company is going beyond the call and will implement number portability throughout its 13-state operating region, regardless if customers live within the top 100 MSAs. In addition the letter points out the company's disappointment with the Commission's decision to move forward without competitive parity.

Default Wireline to Wireless delay

CoreComm in central Ohio was apparently unaware that wirelines could be ported away. I'm sure that will make for a few headaches for some people here.

Default Wireline to Wireless delay

There's a Cingular store right near my office, so I decided to stop in at lunchtime today. I told them I was interested in a Family Share Plan and wanted to port my landline to one phone (from Verizon Comm.) and my girl's cell to the other (VZW). The sales guy told me while it was possible, I should wait for at least another week. He claimed they had yet to make a successfull landline ----> Cingular port and their system was in a real mess.

I thanked him for his honesty and took his card with the promise that if I do make the move to them, I would be back to see him.

Certainly, AT&T is in a huge mess due to their activation software upgrade, to the point where I doubt that porting is even on their radar screen.

My Nextel Rep claims they are up and porting without any major problems, except for dealing with AT&TWS.
