Hi all!

I just got a knew cell phone from verizon and it has location based service on it. It can be set to LBS for 911 only or for LBS to be on all the time. Is there a downside to having Location Based Service on all the time? I figured it would be good for my kids to have it on just in case. If I set it at 911 only and something were to happen to them would the police still be able to trace the phone? Thanks for the help!

I cannot think of any downside, but I do not think that all providers, have enabled the permanent LBS. If you decide to use the service, I think that you should call your local Customer Service, so you do not have a false sense of security. If you opt for the 911 portion, your children could probably be located if they are able to call 911.

Not very many 911 centers have upgraded to actually be able to use that service...many states have raided the funds collected for e911 for other matters....as for gps on or off, currently it doesn't really matter, in the near future Verizon will be offering location based services such as Get it now partnerships with mapquest, or phone tracking etc. Until then I would just leave it on for 911 only.
