Nope, they are, I don't like it as well, it shrinks the postings on the page. I noticed that was why the page was loading sooooooo slow yesterday. Although we don't like them I guess the site owners really don't care as they need advertising to keep this going. I couldn't access the site for a couple of hours today. Yes it has been going offline a lot lately. It seemed to have started when we added private messaging and the ads on the right hand side of your screen. I'm wondering if it's just a coincidence or it's some how related to that.
