A simple question?

I need to do two things while away from my desk, during business hours:
1. Connect with my ISP's email server to receive mail.
2. Access an internet broker's website (Scottrade).
That's it, I don't need to send email or instant messages, talk on the phone, listen to MP3's or the radio, play games, etc.
What's the cheapest way to accomplish this? As far as I can tell, I've got three options:
1. Get a Palm and a subscription to Palm.net
PRO: Unlimited minutes, fairly cheap hardware. CON: Only 1MB/month for 29.99, no unlimited data option.
2. Get a another type of PDA and a cell phone, and use the phone as modem
PRO: Don't Know CON: Seems overly complicated, most PDA's cost a whole lot
3. Get an internet-capable cell phone and a service plan with data capability
PRO: All in one, phones are cheap (so I'm told) CON: Limited minutes, too many service plan choices.

Does anybody have any suggestions or know a web site that compares rates for wireless data services.
If it means anything, I'm in the Raleigh NC area and do not have a cell phone currently.
