I have just taken the plunge into wireless data with a Toshiba 2032 ( the amazon rebate making it just about affordable) It will be used mainly as a wirelss pda and I will retain my existing cell phone and voice plan, so have gone for the chepaest sprint plan with unlimited vision. Is there a way I can also link this somehow to my laptop for times when travelling and the pda screen just wont hack it ?I realise that using the unlimtied plan is not designed for laptop use and I may have to deal with sprint on that issue , but am more concenred at this point as to whether this is even possible thorugh the serial connection or infa red ? I assume it would be straight forward with a network link betwen the 2 devices ( i know never assume ......) but dont know how i would establish that link with no CF slot on the toshiba. Any Ideas ? this is the EXACT same thing I would like to do! I have unlimited vision on my sprint plan and i understand that sprint wants its customers to buy the pc card and subscribe to the wireless service for laptops....but its my own personal agenda to circumvent that at all costs...... in theory, the PDA should be able to be used as an external modem for the laptop. but the trick is finding a way to configure the modem on the USB port that the device uses with its cradle..and for the computer to recognize the device as a modem and not a pocket pc. an expensive way to do it is buy a bluetooth adaptor for the SD slot at the top of the pda (toshiba makes one) and they also sell bluetooth adapters for laptops. thats the easiest way to share wireless internet between bluetooth devices. but combined, it would cost about 300? or more? im gonna keep trying to configure both my laptop and the modem on my toshiba 2032. if i figure it out ill be back here to report. anyone else have any ideas? i LOVE the toshiba 2032 by the way. the battery life is pretty short though so i added my previous phone to the same account at no cost and use that for telephone calls...the toshiba 2032 is strictly for web browsing. =D emily |

Exact same concern/wish/demand from my Toshiba 2032SP! I was told there was a possibility that a connectivity kit might become available in July (source withheld for now). I also want this only for emergency (wireless internet) so I won't be an abuser either. Perhaps if we put our resources together..... send me a direct email and I'll tell you who to contact to apply some consumer pressure. -jpw |
