Default Cranking up a Cell phone

Hi, is there anyway you can turn the wattage up inside the cell phone itself to make it transmit and receive better?

You probably could but there are two reasons which speak against such a procedure:

1) If you open up the phone to perform modifications, then you are voiding/forfeiting the manufacturer warranty.

2) The FCC has set certain transmission (output)/reception power levels which may not be changed or exceeded since that is then deemed as "causing interference to other devices" as the infamous Part 68 regulation states on virtually any wireless/electronic device. It is also possible raising the output level raises the maximum SAR (Specific Absorbation Rate - set at 2.0 Watts/kg by the European Union and 1.6 Watts/kg (roughly 3.5 pounds) by the FCC) that every phone must comply with before it can sold in the US.

If you want to improve your phone's performance, you could look into a repeater option that is available for some manufacturers. Try a forum search to see where that info has been posted on WA.

Hope this helps,

The best way to do this would be to buy an external antenna and connect it to your phone or buy a wireless repeater.

well those wireless repeaters are pretty expensive!

the external antennas only amplify the signal at a 3db gain as opposed to the wireless repeaters which amplify the signal at a whopping 60+ gain.

And they have to be both type approved by the FCC and carrier approved by your service provider. Another maker to check out is SpotWave.
