I saw this on Orient Beach on the island of St. Martin (on the French side). I thought it was pretty cool. I'd imagine the coverage was OK without this, but it's probably needed for capacity as well. I didn't bother taking my phone, as the Dutch side of the island provided no *usable* coverage and the French side is supposedly all 900 (and also barred on Cingular), which my phone doesn't have.
