I have a samsung sph i730. I've recently purchased a signal repeater for my buiding that I'm trying to calibrate to amplify voice signal strength inside. Can someone tell me the best codes to look at in my debug mode below? Verizon won't help me due to liability reasons. Personally, I don't care if I fry my whole phone in the process. I just want to know if my signal strength is improved when my antenna is pointed in a certain direction, and reading the bars won't cut it. I intend to be on the roof, rotating my repeater in 1/2" increments for 360 degrees until my signal strength is best amplifield. Thanks in advance for any help. -Marc Michaels Twinsburg, Ohio My debug mode has 4 pages that read as follows (if some numbers don't make sense, remember that I'm just typing what I see as I see it. I can't "freeze" the screen): St:Paging 1/4 SID:00021 R6 SI1 W01 CH1175 R-089 E-12 T-63 00384 HO BaseID:1433 C252 R:F4 St:3&4 CH1175 R93-03.09 PN140 U:FC5228D7 <CDMA PAGE> 2/4 STATE:Paging SID:00021 REV:6 NID:00000 SI:1 W:01 BC00CH:1175 RSSI:090 EcIo:11 TX:-630000384 HO BaseID:1433 <HDR PAGE> 3/4 CC:252 Atst:3 SESSION st:4 D:00 A:000 T:+00 R:F4 BC00CH:1175 RSSI: 93 PN:140 EcIo:-04.44 UATI:FC5228D7 <OTHERS> 4/4 THERM:142 VBAT:216 LNA STATE:1 |

I'm not familiar w/ field test mode on Samsung phones. On Motorolas you are looking for a negative number followed by a "b" This is your decibel reading. The closer it is to zero, the stronger the signal is. Hope this helps you , Jay

When installing a repeater in a building you need some separation between the donor antenna (on the outside), the amplifier and the broadcast antenna inside. if you are suing a repeater from someone like SpotCell then the repeater will tell you by a combination of LED lights and a small read-out screen will tell you how well your system is working. If you don't have the proper separation then the phone won't be able to make a call (signal will be so strong that it will overdrive the RX/TX in the phone). Good Luck |

Thanks for the input. There is 50ft of separation between my antenna and amplifier (CAE-50 PCS repeater package from www.cellantenna.com.) I'd really like to walk around my building with my phone and get an accurate measurement of signal strength. I'd like to create a sort of "before and after" chart as I move from location to location. I suppose my alternative solution is to just use a different phone where the signal strength is more understandable. However, I'm pretty sure my answer somewhere lies in the debug code I provided. I'm pretty sure it is mainly the RSSI reading. I've been told to factor in the "Ecio" value as well to consider "line noise". If I'm correct, I still don't know which RSSI to use. One is on a page that says <CDMA> and one is on a page that says <HDR>. -marc |

Here is a good tutorial on the engineering menu for motorola phones. You may have to register on www.motomodders.net to see it though - I'm not sure. http://www.motomodders.net/Default.a...8&articleId=29 Later, Jay

| Wirelessly posted (Samsung i730: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320)) I believe the R-089 in the third line is the signal strength. The lower the number, the stronger the signal. |

<HDR> (i.e. High Data Rate) indicates your EV-DO RSSI, which is -93 dBm. Ec/Io is okay in the -4 dB range. EV-DO carrier channel appears to be PCS 1175, which is in the PCS C5 license. AJ | |
