Default Unlock Codes

To One and all,

Is no-one discussing unlock codes anymore?

If there is could they PM me so that I can get some advice on a LG phone.

I'm new at this so please don't growl.

Melville.

As a general rule requests for unlock codes are prohibited in forums like this. There are vendors in the advertising section that will do this for you for a fee though.

There isn't any prohibition about discussing unlock codes; what's banned is posting serial numbers, ESNs, IMEIs, etc. in public forums.

Also, it's a bit useless -- each phone's unlock code is specific to that particular handset, so no two Motorola RAZRs will have the same code; no two LGs will have the same code.

Unlocking CDMA phones is even less useful, since CDMA firms will not activate phones they did not sell and there is no SIM chip to make it easy.

I wasn't aware it wasn't specifically prohibited here. I've seen in other forums's FAQ's that if you request unlock codes you'll be banned.

And that's a good thing. I've seen a whole forum eaten alive by coneheads requesting unlock codes. I think discussion is cool (and that's a very enlightened attitude zaphod) as there are some good programs and company info to be shared..but beware. It could get out of hand easily.

I think it was an O'Reilly forum. HoFo doesn't allow unlocking discussion for precisely that reason. The lamers come out and flood the threads. There might also be some legal reason. I'm surprised the major's haven't used/abused/misused the DMCA and gone after the unlocking co's and the free software.

Default Re: Unlock Codes

Most of the unlocking software is developed in Asia. As much as the American government might want to think otherwise, the DMCA only applies to things happening in America.

That said, we have lots of moderators here, so if things get out of hand, we will crack down.

To make things clear: There is no use posting asking for the unlock code for your handset, because you would have to post your phone's serial number or IMEI and that is not allowed. There are plenty of businesses, none endorsed by WirelessAdvisor.com, that advertise unlocking services in the Buy/Sell/Advertise forum. Remember, caveat emptor -- let the buyer beware.
