Hey everybody, I might be looking to get a cheap, unlocked Quad Band phone off Ebay or somehwere...maybe; I'm not sure yet. What would, in your opinon, be a cheap Quad Band phone that works well? I'm not going to be using it much other than testing coverage here and using it when my family or I are overseas in Europe. Thanks, GSM'ers Andy |

Wasn't Motorola's GSM version of the V60 quadband? They seemed to be pretty cheap last time I checked Ebay. The V60 was quite a rugged and dependable phone design, definately something to consider.

V60 was tri-band (900/1800/1900). Some versions of the v180 are quad-band. Depends on your definition of cheap, but you could look for a used v400 or v600, they might be cheap.

I think the v400 will be the best phone for the money.

Especially if you get one with the engineering flex on it.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys, keep in mind, I won't use the phone a lot. I might use it a few times a year to test GSM coverage around town, and on my travels to Europe. I will look into the v400/600, Thanks guys!

The v400 and v600 support mp3 ringtones. The v400 gets better reception overall than the v600 and is usually much cheaper on ebay. That's why I suggest it. I was very happy with my v400.

Don't know if there is a Best Buy or HH Greg, or I'm sure other stores around you but here in ATL you can go to Best Buy and some of the other ones and for $99 and a 1 year agreement you can get the RAZR. I wouldn't be without mine. I watched WAY before we got them when they were selling them in Europe. Out of all the phones I'v had I like this up there with the best. (I also like my old Motorola StarTac but..... It is a great phone. Even PC Mag rates it tops. Try it and if you don't like it you got 30 days. I usually carry mine in my shirt pocket. I also use the bluetooth. I use the Motorola HS850 Bluetooth Wireless Headset. You can look on line for discounts. Cingular usually sells them for $99. I just think it's the best of them. I get better quality then a land line. NEver even had a problem with people hearing me even in a car. (of course, you leave the windows down? Nothing works good. |

Thanks for your reply, topdoc, and welcome to the forums! That would be a good idea, but Cingular is so horrible in my area that I will not even think about giving them my business until they get their acts together. Great idea, though |

Understand that. They should have all the ATT towers in their system now. Don't know where you're at. I'm in the ATL. On top of that, the RAZR has the best reception of all the phones. Motorola built the antenna into the whole phone. When I got mine I had 5 special; spots I couldn't pick up even after the tower conversion but with the Razr it works. Remeber, you always got a 30 day test. That way you can try the different companies. (if they have the same option.) I saw a spot on line where it was free w/ 2yr but skipped the site. ecom or something. Somewhere I saw it for $39.

I'm in Salt Lake City, Utah, and don't worry, I don't even need to try Cingular for one day to know that they are not for me. Thanks for the reply, though, I appreciate it. Check out this thread if you get a chance: http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/sh...ad.php?t=11181 (Cingular is messed up here) |

A good backup I have is my Motorola V188 I got from T-Mobile. Its a simple little color flip phone without a camera or bluetooth or anything, good for the purpose of backing-up from America to Europe. Not a bad design, either. T-Mobile actually paid me to get it, free plus $35 mail-in rebate. But I don't think you are looking to sign a new contract, right? A good place to get GSM phones at a REALLY good price is www.plemix.com. You can even use PayPal there now!
