I've been using an old LG VX10 for a few years now (and an LG 510 before that). One the of the features I really like is being able to send a call to voicemail with the flip closed by pushing one of the exterior buttons twice. When a call comes in, press an exterior button (ie., volume) once and the ringing/vibrating is silenced. Press it a 2nd time, and the call is ended and sent straight to voicemail. I love it. Problem is, I'm looking at a new phone, and NONE of them seem to do this. Can this be true? And the clerks at the Verizon store are clueless. I'm not even sure what to call this feature: "Call ignore"??? Does anyone know what phones have this feature? Here are some of the phones I've been looking at: LG vx4600 LG vx4500 LG vx6000 LG vx6100 Samsung 670 Samsung a530 Motorola v260 Motorola v265 Motorola v710 Kyocera SE-47 Audiovox 8600 Audiovox 8900 Audiovox 8910 Thanks for the help! |

I'm not sure if it can be done w/ my 6100 bc ive never tried it... but if it does GET THE 6100!... it seems like all I do on here is promote the 6100 for people that are interested in it.. it would be a big upgrade from your vx10, and will still keep you familiar with the LG layout/menu style, and its a great phone even if you can't do call-ignore

That seems like it should be a pretty standard feature. Even my lowly Nokia 3595 can do it. I just hit the END button (the one you would hit to end a call) while the phone is ringing, and it silences the phone and sends the caller to VM. I think Nokia calls it "Call Decline". Actually, now that I think about it, whether or not the call goes to VM is probably more a function of the service provider than the individual phone. |

Also. I don't think it has anything to do with the service provider. I'm using this feature on my VX10 right now with Verizon. The Verizon phones (listed above) don't seem to have this feature. So it seems to depend on the phone...make sense? I am seriously annoyed that this feature doesn't seem to exist on new flip phones for Verizon. It never crossed my mind that I'd lose this feature when upgrading to a new phone... Has anybody found some new Verizon flip phones with this feature??? Please help! Quote:

It seems that the newer phones have gotten rid of this feature. I know the V710 and the Samsung A670 cant do it. I think people kept accidentally sending the phone calls to voicemail so manufacturers decided to get rid of the feature.

just out of curiousity why is it so important to you? What difference does it make to you if you silence the phone vs send the call straight to voicemail? its a few extra rings for the person on the other end, but to you it shouldnt make much of a difference, right?

I was slightly disappointed about the same thing with my Audiovox CDM-8910 I just got. With the flip open, the first press of the end button silences the ring, and the second press "declines" it. I could not do it with the flip closed. I do suppose that if people were accidentally declining calls (like when digging around a purse like my wife does) then its good to make that unavailable. (Now if only the external camera button could be deactivated.) However, I was really annoyed when there was no way to deactivate the function of having the flip answer the call when opened -- I thought surely there would be. So it looked like if my flip was closed there was no way I could decline the call. However, if I press the volume keys on the side, for a second a window pops up on the screen that says "Silent Activated." If I open the flip while that window is there, it won't answer the phone. THEN I can use the end key to decline the call. Why is it important? A ringing phone ties up your use of it. If you have one POTS line at home, you can't pick it up and make a call while it's ringing. There are harried situations in life (or maybe frequently in jobs) where you need to make lots of calls and lots of people are calling you. If I'm trying to find something quickly or if I'm on the side of the highway with an emergency, and I need to make a call, I want to be able to decline a call from a random relative so I can make the call immediately. If I have to answer to get rid of it, the caller may think I'm rude or in trouble. If I just answer and hang up, they may call back. Fortunately, with my phone, if I'm about to make a call I'll already have the flip open with easy access to the end key anyway. |

We have the Samsung 670 and you CAN forward calls to your v-mail by pushing the buttons on the left side (not the camera button on the right side). It'll send the caller to your voicemail...one caution: the caller doesn't get sent immediately to v-mail. The phone will continue to ring the full 4-5 rings for the caller (but it's completely silent for you!) and then it'll be sent to v-mail... Hope this helps! |

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who's irritated by the loss of the feature. I sometimes have my land line forward to my cell phone, after the land line rings 4 times, then forwards to cell. Without this feature, the caller may have to listen to 8-9 rings before getting to voicemail. Most people will hang up. If I'm busy, I quickly hit the volume button 2 times (maybe sneaking a peak at who is calling) and the number rings is kept to normal. I love it. As for the v551. I haven't tried it out. But its only for Cingular. I'm on Verizon... Anyone tried the new Audiovox 8940? I think its a new phone. I wonder if this as the call decline feature. Probably not... sigh.... |
