Default Problem accessing Cingular around Fond Du Lac, WI

A while back I switched from an old GAIT plan to a GSM plan but kept my old Nokia 6340i GAIT phone. Having been assured by my Cingular rep that it would work on GSM, TDMA, analog etc. However, many times around Fond Du Lac WI I am unable to access Cingular's network and I never had this problem before. Now I am getting a recording that says "you have reached the American Roaming Network, please enter your credit card #". I have made 2 calls to Cingular's customer support and one visit to my local rep. Mostly they say to try rebooting the phone, which doesn't help a bit. This situation occurs east of Fond Du Lac a little and as far west as Dalton and Randolph. This is probably a 40-50 mile stretch. Anyone know what is going on or how to resolve the problem?

To resolve it, I suggest you find a comfortable spot (with a wired phone to call in to Cingular with) in this no coverage area. Call in, and be prepared to spend up to a half hour with tech support while they figure out what could be going on. Offer to move back into Cingular coverage, if they'd like to update your SIM.

Be prepared to tell TS where you are. My experience is that their maps showing the tower locations have county lines, and US and state numbered highways.

Maybe the Cingular rep forgot to add the GAIT code to your new Cingular GSM plan?? I'm not sure if that could be it, but it's a thought, especially if the phone has worked in the area before.
