    Default Cell Shape

When I was reading up on some cell stuff, I noticed that the pattern of the cell shape resembles that of a 6 sided figure. Why exactly are they shaped as such?

Some of the same reasons bees use the hexagon. It closely resembles a circle and can completely "tile". Math is fun.

For documentation purposes, they used the honeycomb shape to show how they are all next to each other. It was for a clean look on what they were trying to present. Some documentation included the caveat of "cell propagation is nothing like the representation here, this is for illustration only". It just kinda stuck after somebody did it.

There IS a commonality of having sites with 6 sectors, instead of three, but I don't think that has much bearing on what you're looking at. Just easier on the eye than a bunch of overlapping circles.
