Default Verizon Wireless Phone - Question/Advice

I currently have Verizon Wireless and have been a happy customer for many years. In November of 2004 I purchased 2 Samsung SCH-A650 phones, one for my wife and one for myself. After using the phones for the 15 day trial period I was not totally impressed, but current phones were in poor shape and these were the only tri-mode phones available, so I decided that these phones would be satisfactory. However, after 3 1/2 months of use I am totally unsatisfied with these phones. There are several reasons, but the most prevelant is that the phones get HOT after minutes of use, making it very difficult to have long conversations because you have to hold the phone from your face. Also, the phone is difficult to use, the ear piece must be in just the right location or you cannot hear the other person (I did not have this with my V60!) and there is no exterior caller id screen (this is not the most important feature, but it sure was nice).
In general I think the phones are not quality phones. Does anyone know how or where I can get different phones?

Thank Much,

Eric

Pay full retail at the store or shop on Ebay.

The vx3200 was available in November and the vx6100 was available online. There may have even been a dual-mode/dual-band Nokia available, too.

The phones a probably getting hot because they're using analog a lot.

The phones are not using analog allot, they are in an area of perfect coverage. Many times less than a half mile from a tower.

The vx3200 was available, but does not have a exterior caller id and was more expensive as far as the vx6100, I prefer not to buy things online.

Samsung phones traditionaly have gotten the warmest during calls. EVERY phone I have had has done this. Samsung seems to be the worst culprit though.

If you prefer not to buy things online thenn your only oprions will involve serious $$$$$$$. Prety much online i can pay for 3 phones what you would pay for 2 full retail.

The reason Samsung phones tend to get warmer (as opposed to Motorolas or Nokias) is that the battery is NOT encased in the phone. If you want to access a battery on a Motorola or Nokia, you have to lift the back plate to get to the battery. On a Samsung, the battery IS the back plate, so your hand has direct access to the battery, thus gets warmer more quickly.

My a670 will get quasi-warm, but never to the point that I cannot have 45+ minute conversations on it.

My LG has the snap-on-the-back battery and it never gets hot when I use it for an hour.

FOSSIL, Although Samsung is a good company the a-650 was not their proudest achievment. It is unfortunate that you did not go with your first instinct on this phone because now you are stuck with it unless you want to pay full price. What phones did you have before you bought the a-650? If you still have them and they are working okay you may be ale to turn them back on until you can get a upgrade. But it does depend on the phone.

also, mabey consider switching to your old phones temporarily, and sell the 650's on ebay. Then use the cash raised from those to buy either new (from store) or used (from store or ebay). I am pretty happy with my a650, although i have noticed that it heats up, but not to the point of it being hot.

I was also in the situation of having to get a tri-mode when this was the only one available. This was back in november.

I am happy with the voice quality. It seems that a lot of flip phones have the problem where people tend to slide them down their faces. The 650's speaker is not recessed, providing for a smaller area of audible coverage on the handset.

I have a Nokia 5185 for backup
That sucker will heat up
