Default Madison, WI: T-Mobile Issues

Currently, I live in north central Illinois. There, T-Mobile works just fine as a phone provider. But in August, I'm moving to Madison, WI. I have noticed whenever I visit there, my cell phone provider on my screen goes from T-Mobile to USA 64 and I cannot check my voicemail. Initially, I thought it was because of my phone, but my friend, who also has T-Mobile, gets Einstein PCS as a provider up there. Neither of which I have heard of before.

Now, I don't know if it's roaming or just T-Mobile being weird in Wisconsin, but this is something I need to sort out before I move. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have my wife on a T-mo2go phone here in Madison, with a Chicago area number. It works just fine- roams mostly on AT&T, and occasionally on Einstein. Einstein is a small GSM PCS company, mostly covering Madison through Green Bay. There isn't any native t-mo coverage here.

I just took a look at their site, and it's really gone downhill. They used to have a site that looked professionally designed and maintaned, now it's tagged with "created with buildmyownsite.com" at the bottom right. I don't get the idea they're doing well financially. There was a time they advertised, they don't now. I'm not sure who their customers are.

But anyway, your TMo phone shouldn't be a problem, though I'm not sure on voicemail. I don't think we've ever used it.

And I'll take a wild guess here and say "welcome to the U of W."

That's really helpful. Thanks a lot. I guess I'll have to talk to the company about the voicemail situation.

And you're guess is dead on. I'm becoming a Badger. Thanks.

Your phone should be fine as long as roaming is included on your plan (which most tmo plans are). As far as the voicemail, since your on roaming, just pressing the "1" key wont work..which im assuming your doing. Just dial your wireless number from the handset and you will get your voicemail so you can check it then. hope this helps!

while roaming you call your number when your vm greeting plays press * (star) to interrupt your greeting enter your passcode, 4 digit number then you can check your vm.

If you don't know your passcode, while your in a tmobile coverage area, dial #pwd# send to reset it to the last four of your mobile number, or if that won't work for you call cust care 611 in coverage area, or 1-800-937-8997 while roaming and we will reset it for you free of charge.

I have been using T-mobile as my service provider for the past 2 years, and have been roaming in Madison mostly on the Cingular network, which is great. However, about a month ago, I noticed that I can no longer roam on Cingular, and can only do so on Einstein which is terrible. I called the T-mobile guys to ask them what was going on, and they told me that Cingular is experiencing technical problems in the Madison area, and it should be fixed in a couple of days. It has been a month now and I still can't roam on Cingular. I wonder if any other T-mobile users in Madison are experiencing the same problem. I am seriously contemplating switching to ATT. =(

More than likely, the roaming agreement with Cingular ended like most of them with att/Cingular, have you thought about the hotspot calling that tmobile offers might be worth a shot before jumping ship and paying more for your service, but if not good luck to you. Just an FYI for you if a Technician told you Cingular was having issues, they may have been not being truthful with you unfortunately. Nobody at tmobile can tell you if or when Cingular is having network issues. Sorry but I think the rep just was passing the buck.

Interesting. Now that you mention it, my wife's phone is on Einstein right now, when it's normally on AT&T at our house.....

Thumbs down Re: Madison, WI: T-Mobile Issues

I am currently in Madison and am shocked that Einstein does not permit data roaming here. i use my BB far more for Internet and email than anything else, so it's like having a frustrating paperweight. I do have a UMA device, so it is possible for me to get email when near an open WiFi network. I don't know anything about this company, but I hope that TMO is able to purchase them to resolve this situation.
