I was at FT McCoy 2 years ago and I saw Tmobile, Einstein and I roamed most of the time on Cingular while there.

What area are you referring to exactly? Dobson (now AT&T) has the west central are down just south of I94. South of there, Alltel and US cellular own the 800MHz licenses, so only 1900MHz carriers will cover that area.

I am wondering who need to expand the coverage. I see only 194 is covered and not much past that. If there was to be coverage in the rural areas, who would be the company to do it?

so what you are saying then, is that the two cellular companies...alltel and US cellular would be the only one's to expand coverage there. Well they are CDMA. Einstein PCS is GSM, but you are saying becaue they are 1900 they won't look to expand. So my answer is then....don't expect any GSM coverage there for a long time...

I wouldn't expect those areas to have the kind of "blanket" coverage that CDMA does, but that's not to say that the bigger towns in that region won't get a GSM tower. This whole area of the country is kind of bad for GSM. All the GSM in southern MN is 1900 from Tmobile and AT&T, and all the "roaming" coverage that Western Wireless (now Alltel) built in the Dakotas and Nebraska is I believe on the 1900MHz band but mounted on there existing towers making the coverage spotty. All the big Cellular band carriers that went with CDMA (Verizon, US Cellular, Alltel) just happen to own most of the licences for this region.
