Transfer service between Samsung A630s

I'm on my sister's Verizon Friends and Family plan, using a Samsung A630 for about a year and a half. Due to Hands Free laws I've been using a headset while driving. All the jostling has
damaged the earphone jack. (I've tried different headphones, all produce the same static and intermittent sound.) I though about buying a replacement Samsung A630 on eBay.

Is there a way that I can program a replacement A630 with the necessary info to make it work with my current phone number? (I'd rather do it myself if possible. I'm not the biggest fan of wireless store employees or call-in telephone agents, having been misled a couple of times.)

You can do part of the job yourself, keying in the phone number and SID number, then dialing *228 for PRL update. But first you need Verizon to know the new Electronic Serial Number, so you'll need a call center person or store front person to get that in for you. I have read of it being done online, in the detail pages of "My Account"--others should be able to tell you better.
