Record Numbers Using Cellular One’s Wireless Data Services; State-of-the-Art Network Taking Cell Phones Beyond Voice Calling (SPECIAL) – Think cell phones are just for talking? Think again. Cellular One reports it processed more than 16.5 million text messages – an all-time, one-day high – last Tuesday. “We are in the midst of the wireless revolution and Cellular One is at the forefront,” said Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer Timothy J. Duffy. “Over the last four years we have focused our efforts on building a state-of-the-art GSM/GPRS/EDGE data network that gives our customers access to the latest wireless technologies, in addition to traditional voice service.” Collectively, Cellular One customers across the company’s 17-state service area also set a new one-day record for more people surfing the Internet from their wireless handsets, more content downloads and more multi-media messaging, which includes sending pictures, downloading ringtones and downloading music from Napster Mobile. “Wireless products and services continue to change the way people communicate,” Duffy said. “As a company, we’re obviously pleased that our efforts to give our customers access to these services have been so well received.” Cellular One launched its GSM/GPRS/EDGE voice and data networks four years ago by overlaying its entire existing network. GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication), is the most widely-used digital wireless technology in the world. Since launching the technology, the company has turned on hundreds of new cell sites and expanded its coverage in many areas where wireless service previously was unavailable. “We will continue to give our customers new products and technologies that enhance the way they communicate using their wireless devices,” Duffy said. “The core of that pledge is centered around our on-going commitment to providing the best possible wireless network to our customers.” Cellular One is a licensed trade name of Dobson Cellular Systems, a subsidiary of Dobson Communications Corporations (NASDAQ: DCEL.) Headquartered in Oklahoma City, the company is one of the largest providers of wireless telecommunication services to rural America. -30- |

Gee if they were that bad, then why did AT&T just buy them for up to $5 Billion? Besides did you read the post, it was the amount of people doing downloads & SMS for 1 day & I guess since in this country SMS & Data is not a large used item on phones, it's still considered an up & coming "Revolution" otherwise carriers wouldn't be pushing to get people to use it with all the incentives (other then more money for them, which is what they want) | |

Yeah, because it takes so little to cost to push data through the network it is almost pure profit, but it has been around for a while.....most people now days do use text and data, look how many smartphones you see now, and how cheap they have become, and also all the plans that include data and text..... Alltel's family choice plan, verizons family plans, and ATT
