Very interesting. I'm sure a local study or an "independent" agency declared Sprint's network in the Chicago Area to be the best. I think, though, the for Sprint, "Most Powerful" does not only mean voice, but Data as well.

This is the first I have seen....in the mail/fliers anyhow. Well, I guess this is the first I have seen Sprint get in on the "best network" type advertising.

There have been many reports of Sprint sending these fliers out all around the US this month. But oddly I haven't received one yet for So. Cal which has actually had the most improvements for them to brag about.

Really? I don't recall Sprint sending anything like this out detailing exact improvements in a market in recent years. They did way back in the day, (1998-2001 era) but haven't really done it too much since then.

Yeah and the map only shows a few VERY small "green" blobs that according to the key, is the improvement areas. If I was a potential customer, I would not be impressed. Unless, they are just hoping that all the dark colors together will persuade people that the whole area was improved?

Right! I know for a fact that Chicago has had a lot more improvements than that in the past 5 or 6 months. If they're going to take the time to send those out they might as well milk it for everything they can get and not just a handfull of small areas.

From what I hear Chicago is actually one of Sprint best performing markets. It's in the same class as Los Angeles/Orange County for coverage and call quality.

Actually they have been advertising this in the paper and I did get something in the mail as well about 1-2 months ago.

I will have to take a photo of the newspaper ad if they don't do this by you, to let you see it if you want. It's pretty close to what Shizam posted.

Sprint has three or four towers in your area. Considering it's a town of under 40k people (With a good number over age 65, typically non cell users)that's not too shabby.

Also take into consideration the topography of your locale. The flatness of it, combined with the less than optimum demographics of the user base doesn't lend itself to a very thorough buildout.

Maybe I will hit 1 of their stores tomorrow & see if they have a brochure with it.

Bars don't matter; every phone shows bars differently (some are more conservative than others)...there are too many variables and at the end of the day, as long as you can make a call, bars mean NOTHING.

Haven't used Sprint here for a few years but they probably do have good towers/service. One thing they do have is available stores. I live in downtown Chicago and its impossible to find a Verizon store...the one on MI Avenue is the ONLY one in the loop or anywhere nearby...and they have the worst staff and service I've EVER encountered. For that reason alone, if I were changing, I'd give Sprint a hard look.

Yeah, Sprint works very well around Chicago and especially in Hyde Park, but in my house, I get almost no reception. I have to get near or window, or stand on the porch, to get enough reception. I have heard other people with this problem. The worst part is my dad's Cingular Razr (back when it was still Cingular) worked fine, I think his T-Mobile blackberry works fine, and worse of all, my brother's crappy plastic Virgin Mobile white clamshell phone works fine. My boyfriend had the same problem with his Sprint phone in my place. Why is this?

An estimated 30% of all wireless users on all carriers report problems in their house. That's because residential areas are tough to cover because often they can't place the transmission antennas close enough due to city zoning regulations and lack of an eligible landlord to host the antennas.

Yeah, that still doesn't answer why Sprint performs worse than Cingular, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile in my house. My bf is lucky, he gets great reception in his family's place on the south side.

Something doesn't make sense, why would the Virgin Mobile phone work, but not the OP's phone in the same locations?

kpopgrrl what phone do you & your boyfriend have and are they set to Roam only for the network?
