It is possible to roam on Cingular with T-Mobile in certain areas. Both Cingular and T-Mobile are available where I live and sometimes, my T-Mobile phone will roam on Cingular. There could be a network outage or something while T-Mobile upgrades their system.

This morning, for a few minutes, I noticed no T-Mobile signal was available and I was roaming (on Alltel GSM, though, not Cingular.)

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it continues for an extended period of time. If that happens, you should call T-Mobile tech support.

Just curious, what does your phone display when you roam on Alltel GSM?

On my Samsung e315, it displayed "USA 590," on my unbranded Motorola v620, it displays simply, "ROAMING." I can't remember what it says on my v300, because I don't use it very much.

It's funny though...when my Nokia 6101 is on automatic it detects cingular all by itsself..however when I do a manual search and choose cingular..it says "NO SYSTEM ACCESS" why is that?

This is all happening in the same location as I understand. The OP is saying that if his phone is set on automatic and the T-Mobile signal gets too weak it will automatically switch to T-Mobile but if he manually forces it it's a no go.

No roaming agreement? Why was my phone on the Cingular system several times a day today?

So andy what you're saying is that if the signal on T-Mobile gets too weak..It'll automatically pick up the Cingular towers (as they have more) here in town? Thats wierd..because no matter where i was here in town the cingular signal was weak also one bar most places and that was near a tower.

For a few weeks in MD this summer (outside DC), I could roam and use Cingular, but it's no longer available. Not sure why it worked.

That's strange. As a Cingular customer in the DC area I have never been able to register on TMO's network.
