Default A Network Code for Cingular In My Area?

I recently purchased an i-mate JasJar or HTC Universal. I realize it is not meant for the US and also has issues with only the 1900Mhz band working but it's my PDA first and phone second. I'd like to get the phone side working if possible even if service is a little off.

I pop in my SIM card and it sees my card and phone number on card but doesn't connect. I see from the website that my area (Louisville, KY-Southern Indiana) with zip of 47130 shows Cingular with 1900 and 850. I am seeing T-Mobile on the 1900 band but not the Cingular network. I feel there's something I am missing in the setup.

Is there somewhere that lists the network codes that Windows Mobile needs to make sure the network is being hit? I am looking at entering this in the phone setup portion of the OS where you can specific a specific network code.

Any thoughts or directions would be appreciated!

Try 310-410 and 310-380, this should be automatically controlled by your SIM card though.

Thanks for the quick response. Is that literally "310-410" and "310-380" or are other numbers or the hyphen with it. Sorry for the noob questions!! BTW, I saw I typo'ed my zip code wrong above and corrected it with 47130 if that makes a difference.

Again thanks!

That is how people refer to the codes, It may be that you have to remove the -. Still this function should be controlled by your SIM card, and if CIngular is only on 850 in your area then you are SOL with a 1900 only phone.

Can you tell what channel your phone is using? If your channel's ARFCN is 128-251, it is 850 and if it is 512-810, it is 1900.

Trying to find out how on the device right now. Funny thing is that while trying to find it on the device, it did pop up the GPRS symbol and signal was low but it was Cingular. Lasted a few minutes and then disappeared. Must be in a weak area for the 1900 unless there's a way to hone in on it. I'll keep looking and will post it back here. Thanks all for the help and stay tuned!
