Currently I have a share talk line with USCC. I was reading about Alltel buying parts of MW. My plan is going to run out here soon with USCC, and I was thinking about switching to Alltel, mainly to get the National and My Circle. Also really want the Mobile to Mobile to work in roaming areas. I have been traveling quite a bit lately, and have been using quite a few minutes roaming, as I don't have a nationwide plan with USCC. Do you guys know if I would be able to get Alltel here in Northeast Iowa? My zipcode is 52159. I called Alltel and they said they didn't have a local market here in Iowa, but with the MW buy wouldn't they be getting one?

The area which you reside in is currently served by Midwest Wireless. If all goes according to speculation, that will become Alltel turf. I would ride out your USCC plan until the merger is complete. Not knowing anything on how and when the merger will be complete, my best guess would be the local Midwest Wireless store in Decorah or Oelwein will say Alltel sometime this autumn.

Alltel does have a network in Iowa, Pottawatomie County (Council Bluffs) is the only place where they serve in Iowa at this point. Alltel did serve in Iowa City, Watterloo, Cedar Rapids from 1998 until spring 2000 when they swaped networks with Verizon Wireless. Alltel has My Circle You get to pick 10 phone numbers anywhere in the US you want to be airtime free. I would just stay with US Cellular until Alltel comes to town. |

But does MW have any towers near my area? I have a USCC tower right here in town, so I don't really want to loose that good service

hit *22801 on your phone and see if the anntena bars are the same are worse of better. That is what will let you know. You should not be charged for roaming. This is just to do a quick check of the network. |

I haven't been to Monona - but my Verizon phone worked all the way to Madison, WI. I haven't had my Cingular up that way. But it does work in Mt Vernon/Lisbon/Martelle

You alltel phone should have free roaming on the USCC tower - but I don't think you can roam more than 50% of your allocated minutes in a 3 month period on another carriers network (off Alltel native network) - if that is how they do their roaming clause or something simillar...

Alltel perfers to first roam on US Celluar then MidWest Wireless both for free. That will flip when the MidWest Wireless deal closes. | |

I see - from what I understand the MWW network used to be part of Verizon - but is no longer and is now part of Alltel. I think it is a good network from what I have heard.

Where he is at I think it was Cellcom to Midwest Wireless. It may have been a market that went Commnet Wireless to Airtouch to VZW to MidWest Wireless to comming soon Alltel. |

Your right that Menona lies in RSA 12. MIdwest Wireless bought that RSA from Cellcom in 2003, which at that time was only an AMPS market Upon purchase Midwest Wireless upgraded everything to CDMA 2000 1x and has added a few more towers. However, I don't believe they have a tower in Menonona, so I can't comment on the coverage there. If you know someone with a Midwest phone or Verizon phone that's in the area, they could tell you. Verizon will be roaming of Midwest in RSA 12. If you do purchase an Alltel phone now, you would roam off that USCC tower for the time being, but once the deal closes with Midwest Wireless, you would go onto their native network and closest tower.... |

Does Alltel roam for free off USCC on their Greater Freedom plan? Or is it just on their National plan?
