Cellular One Continues Network Expansion, Enhancement in Michigan SPECIAL – As part of its ongoing commitment to network excellence, Cellular One from Dobson Cellular Systems has continued to focus its efforts on expanding and strengthening its network, spending more than $130 million last year adding more than 200 new cell sites nationwide. The company now has more than 3,000 sites serving more than 1.6 million customers, and even more sites are planned for 2006. For the thumb area of Michigan these advances have accelerated and progress has been swift, including the following list of network improvements and enhancements: Radio channel growth for increased capacity for both voice and data. Antenna changes improving call quality and site performance. Frequency retune completed in order to grow GSM and improve overall call quality. Tower Mounted Amplifiers installed to increase site performance, improve call quality, and decrease drop calls. Full EDGE was added to every site in order to take advantage of GSM’s data capabilities and increased data speeds. New cell sites on-line and in production for the region to increase signal, add capacity, and expand coverage areas: Bad Axe WT (on-line) has improved signal, added capacity, and expanded the coverage area in the town of Bad Axe along M53 and M142 North of Bad Axe. Unionville (on-line) has improved signal and increased coverage area in the town of Unionville and along M25 and M138. Owendale (on-line) improves signal, adds capacity, and increases coverage near the towns of Owendale and Gagetown. Kingston (on- line) has improved signal, added capacity, and expanded coverage near the town of Kingston on M46 and in areas south of Caro. Port Sanilac is scheduled for a new tower in the 2nd quarter of ’06 with a mid-June on air date. Once built this site will improve coverage in the town of Port Sanilac. Deckerville will receive a new tower in the 2nd quarter of ’06, also with a mid-June on air date. Once built this site will improve coverage in the town of Deckerville. HePA’s will be installed as well in the region to every cell site. This upgrade will accommodate the TMA’s, and increase the cell sites overall output power improving coverage and call quality while reducing dropped calls. These advances underscore Cellular One’s ongoing focus of developing, expanding and delivering the highest quality network services available to customers. Cellular One is located in the Huron Crest Plaza at 858 N. VanDyke in Bad Axe and 1514 W. Caro Road in Caro. I live in Caro, and I currently have Cellular One. I have already noticed some of these changes. I think that they should put more focus on areas around Cass City and in the more rural areas surrounding Caro. I currently have a Motorola V555 through them, so I do have EDGE on my phone and I do notice that the data speeds are much faster than those of GPRS. I don't think that there is one place that I do not receive service through Cellular One, but I was in Kingston a few months ago and I didn't have one bar. So, I'm hoping that they have good coverage there now.
