Cingular Wireless Completes Network Integration in Bowling Green, Clarksville/Hopkinsville & Allen, Ky., & Evansville, Ind. Monday March 13, 8:00 am ET LOUISVILLE, Ky. and EVANSVILLE, Ind., March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless customers in Bowling Green, Clarksville/Hopkinsville, and Allen, Ky., and Evansville, Ind., now have more coverage in more places thanks to the integration of the AT&T Wireless and Cingular Wireless networks. The network integration, coupled with the new sites built in 2005, gives customers enhanced quality and coverage where they want it most -- at the office, in their cars, and in their homes. The integration began with Cingular's purchase of the former AT&T Wireless in the fall of 2004. This expansion was part of the company's completed 2005 $67 million investment in its Kentucky network that included the integration of two state-of-the-art networks and the addition of more than 39 new cell sites across Kentucky and the Evansville area last year. The integration of the AT&T Wireless and Cingular Wireless networks involves choosing the best cell sites from both, eliminating duplicate equipment, and then placing everything on a common network platform. The entire Kentucky/Evansville network integration is slated to be completed by mid-year. "The integration of the two networks in Kentucky and the Evansville area gives our valued customers in these cities and counties increased coverage, improved call quality and the ability to make calls in more places, whether they are on the road, at work, or at home," said Jim Thorpe, Vice President and General Manager for Kentucky and Tennessee. "Our network is the foundation of our business, and we are continually working to make it even stronger than it already is." The outcome of the Kentucky/Evansville integration project is new GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) coverage in areas where it was nonexistent, or expanded and enhanced GSM coverage in other areas. GSM is the world standard for wireless communication, used by more than a billion people in 200-plus countries. "Almost overnight our network was transformed, giving our customers access to more sites in more places, and we are not stopping. This year we will continue to invest and expand our network across Evansville and Kentucky," said Bill Plantz, Executive Director of Network Engineering for Kentucky and Tennessee. Some newly integrated sites providing enhanced coverage to Cingular customers include: Bowling Green Area: - The Mammoth Cave site, on Louisville Rd. in Smiths Grove, Edmonson County - Near the junction of I-65 and Woodburn Allen Springs Rd. in Woodburn, Warren County Clarksville/Hopkinsville Area: - On old Brownfield Road in Dover, Stewart County - Near 101st Airborne Pkwy. and U.S. 79 - On Old Madisonville Rd. in Hopkinsville Allen Area: - On Big Knob, off Fire Tower Rd. in Somerset in Pulaski County - In Laurel County, on 13th Street in London Evansville Area: - The St. Mary's Site, on Monroe Ave. - On Broadway, on the river between Egmont and Dennison

This Mammoth Cave Site has allready been in use for about six or seven years. It was built back in the US Cellular days. This guy is full of crap. I had Cingular years ago back when it was still Bellsouth mobility and it was awful and from what I hear it still is. Bluegrass is much better than Cingular southern Kentucky.

The post states that the area has been integrated which means AT&T sites have been integrated with Cingular sites so you have more sites in the area. They only talked about 9 sites but they integrated 39. Read the entire post |
