I am having issues with GSM and I am serisously considering going back to TDMA. With my Nation plan I had before I could use my phone ANYWHERE....and I never had to worry about roaming charges. But with GSM.....my coverage area is significantly smaller and the reception isn't as good.........a lot of times I have a hard time hearing the person on the other end of my converstation. I think I may trade in this T720 while I still can and get me a V60t as well as my old nation plan.......at least then I can feel confident in my calls and my phone. What do you guys think????? |

Badams, AT&T's TDMA coverage will be as good as it is now, and maybe slightly better, for the forseeable future. AT&T recently installed a new site near my home that has TDMA and GSM, but no AMPS. I would have no reservations about signing up for AT&T's TDMA service. Their TDMA service will be around longer than the life cycle of your phone. -Bill |

| Put yourself in AT&T's shoes: you have a TDMA network that's completely built out, and paid for. All it does is sit there and make money for you, with some upkeep of course. Would YOU be in a hurry to turn that kind of thing off? I'm with Bill, I would have NO reservations being on AT&T TDMA. I only moved off of them because I wanted data services. |

I'm with Cingular right now.........and they are telling me that within the next 2+ year I will only be able to get GSM with them. Thats fine with me.......as long as they get the system as wide spread as their TDMA system currently is. |

Once GSM gets turned on, they won't shut TDMA off until enough years have passed that everyone has had a chance to upgrade their phones. The FCC probably will make them keep TDMA running (like they do with analog now) for about 5 years.

See thread in Southern Wireless Services Forum... Cingular has already begun eliminating new TDMA activations........as of 12/31 they will no longer activate new TDMA accounts in TN and KY. Apparently their business plan is to launch GSM in a market...and 45-60 days later eliminate new TDMA activations in an effort to boost GSM. |

That's because because they can't afford to be maintaining two networks in the same area. Existing customers won't be forced to leave TDMA I hope.

In response to Zaphod... NORMALLY, that's a perfectly valid idea... except this user isn't one of the fortunate few to be able to use a 1900Mhz GSM phone in his home area. Cingular is 850GSM in his area and right now his only choices from Motorola are the C331g and T720. No V60 or V70 that works on 850GSM. Personally if I was going to get a GSM 850 phone, I'd get the 6590i. If I was in his shoes, however, I'd actually have gotten a GAIT phone.. specifically the T62u seeing as how it's the only one of the two GAIT phones that works reliably right now, it seems. Anyway, it's all a moot point right now because he actually went and traded his phone in and got the V60t from Best Buy.
