Default America's Choice - gaps in home coverage

I'm considering changing plans from my local plan (SE Michigan) to an America's Choice plan, so that I have more national coverage available without paying roaming charges. Mostly, I'm in Michigan with trips to northern Ohio, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Ft Lauderdale-Miami for the most part when traveling.

I've heard stories, however, that there are more gaps in "home" area coverage under the AC plan; stories of people driving along in an area indicated as "home" area on the Verizon map; periodically, they can be switched over to roaming at a higher charge without notice in certain stretches.

I'd appreciate information from anyone who has switched from local to AC plan on the comparison of "home" areas under the two types of plan.

Default America's Choice - gaps in home coverage

Just as in any service you have theres always going to be gaps. For the most part they have updated there coverage maps to reflect current coverage.

Default America's Choice - gaps in home coverage

Hi BLL. Your inquiry could have been written by me 5 months ago. I, too, am based in SE Michigan and I also travel fairly heavily to each of the areas that you listed except Florida. I switched from the regional Great Lakes plan with Verizon to their AC plan. Could not have made a better move. Coverage is strong in all of your travel areas and I haven't had to give up too much here at home. I also travel heavily to Lansing, Saginaw and Grand Rapids. Coverage is strong. One sacrifice (for now) is the U.P. and northern lower peninsula. No coverage in Mackinaw, etc. I understand that this may be changing soon as Verizon expands their partnering agreements. Overall, it should be an excellent move for you as it was for me.
