Verizon Wireless seems to be buying systems where they have significant roaming. So you DC customers, keep up the calls in the 'burbs! "November 21, 2002 - BEDMINSTER, NJ- Verizon Wireless today announced it signed an agreement with Shenandoah Mobile Company to purchase the controlling interest in a wireless system serving the Virginia #10B2 Rural Service Area (RSA) in a major expansion of its coverage footprint throughout a six-county area located west of Washington D.C. Financial terms were not disclosed. The agreement provides that Verizon Wireless will purchase a 66 percent partnership interest in the Virginia 10 RSA Limited Partnership from Shenandoah Mobile, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shenandoah Telecommunications Company. The wireless operation covers markets with a total population (POPS) of some 198,000. Major highways in the footprint include Interstates 66 and 81. The business, operating today under the Shenandoah Cellular brand, will be converted to the Verizon Wireless brand as the operation is integrated into the Verizon Wireless Washington/Baltimore & Virginia Region, headquartered in Laurel, MD. The Virginia #10B2 RSA covers Clarke, Warren, Frederick, Shenandoah, Page, and Rappahannock counties, Virginia" |

Is that Shentel Wireless? I've heard them on the radio on a Winchester (Frederick Co) station. That is the FAR suburbs. Clarke county is probably the closest - 50 miles west of DC.

| for now I doubt that it will happen. SprintPCS & Sprint are making the two companies more unified under a One Sprint moniker so it seems as though they are going in the opposite direction. However one never knows as Voicestream was just rebranded as T-Mobile to bring them into more unity with DT and yet they seem to be up for sale so one never knows in this crazy industry.[/quote] Okay your most likely right but perspectivley where do you see any mergers to come in the near future. Like for example in California T'Mo and CWS are both doing the rollover minutes. I know thats just marketing sharing and there also sharing the GSM/GPRS. Any opion on that going down. |

Shentel is both an SPCS affiliate (they were a Sprint Spectrum/APC GSM affiliate before that!) and runs an 800 MHz system; the 800 system is what's going to VZW. -SC
