Where are you located? I think this is an invasion of privacy and if it happened to me, I would hire an attorney? I have been a CellularOne customer for 9 years. I have been frustrated with their secrecy and lack of info with customers and keep hoping that someone buys them out. They have the best coverage in Northern Wisconsin however where I spend most of my time. |

That is an invasion of privacy, as the other poster stated...I would hire an attorney as well.

I actually sell Cellular One now. A few years back my girlfriend got a call from Cellular One asking them when I was going to pay my bill. They got the number from my call that I had made. I couldn't believe it. I haven't heard of it happening lately though. Cell One probably does need bought out, but the rumors of a buy out have been around for years.

I have an idea on how to stop them from calling.....pay your bill!! As to it being an invasion of privacy, it kind of depends on what they said when they called. If they simply called a number (or numbers) and asked for you or asked how to reach you, then I don't think they are violating any collection laws. If they called someone and went into detail about your account with someone else who is not listed on your account, then yes, they went over the line. An important fact about the collection process is the rules are very strict concerning collection agencies...they must tell you that they are trying to collect a debt, hours/places they can call are limited, etc. However, if Cell One is calling you directly to collect a past due account, those rules generally don't apply, because they are attempting to collect on their behalf. I do find it interesting that two people have already suggested that you hire an attorney, without even knowing the details. As long as they didn't discuss your account with someone else, I think a better idea would be to pay your bill on time and/or change carriers. |
